How the container loading calculator works
This free tool uses a 3D bin-packing algorithm - the same family of logic Shipi uses to pack real shipments - to place your boxes into a 20ft container, 40ft container, high-cube, or pallet. Boxes are kept upright and stacked bottom-first, the way a real loader works, so the fill percentage you see is realistic, not theoretical.
How many boxes fit in a 20ft container?
A 20ft container holds about 33 m³ (589 × 235 × 239 cm, max ~28,200 kg). The real answer depends on your box sizes and how well they tile the space - enter your dimensions above and the calculator shows the exact count, the fill percentage, and what else still fits.
Why does my container look full when it isn't?
Poor stacking order wastes 10–25% of container space: large boxes loaded last, mixed sizes creating unusable gaps, weight limits reached before volume. Packing largest-first (like this tool does) usually recovers most of that space.
